The #1 Killer of Web Design for Business

by Admin on January 25, 2010

You hire people with outstanding technical skills to build your website. You launch the site and you think it is just beautiful, that you will be getting a ton of traffic and customers, and . . . nothing happens. What went wrong?

Let’s look at that first sentence and see if we can figure it out. Did you get it? “Outstanding technical skills,” hmmmm. Are technical skills enough? How about MARKETING skills? Yes, beautifully built sites lose to great marketing sites everyday. So, what is the solution? You want both, right? Right!

Often, people go to a designer with no clear goal or strategy for their website. How often we have asked the question, “What do you want to accomplish with your website?’ and been met with silence.

When you start thinking about goals and strategies for you website, you look at the entire process completely differently.  Instead of thinking about colors and revolving flash elements, you start thinking about calls to action and hooks. You start thinking SEO (search engine optimization) instead of “pretty prose.” You look at pictures and think, “how fast will this load?” You start finding out what people are searching for and find a way to deliver exactly what they are looking for, when they are looking for it.

Beautiful design without marketing is worthless. Beautiful design with an emphasis on marketing – that’s the ticket!
