More Facebook Changes!

by blogmistress on March 2, 2011

Facebook has made yet more change to our pages!

Notice in the left column, where the choice used to be “admin view”, it now says “hidden posts.” This really makes more sense because the admin view of yesterday is how you saw the posts that Facebook had hidden.

Facebook looks at posts and decides whether or not they think it is spam. If they think it is spam, they hide it. Be sure to look at those hidden posts. On my page, for the most part, they have not been spam but rather a fan who posted a link on my wall. I actually like this feature, however, because it keeps an eye out for me. Just be sure you are checking this on a regular basis.

The other change is Facebook has given us back the ability to see our posts in chronological order. Notice the drop down on the right. You can now choose between top posts and most recent posts. The top posts are what Facebook has decided are the most popular posts for you. I really haven’t liked the “top posts” change. The “top posts” makes it a bit more difficult to engage with fans when you have to go looking for your the most recent posts, comments, etc.

What do you think of the changes? Do you like the top posts order. Let us know!

Key Take-Aways:

  1. Admin view is now listed as hidden posts.
  2. You can now choose between most recent and top posts.

Next Steps:

  1. Leave a comment telling us what you think about all the recent Facebook changes.
  2. Download the Facebook for Business 101 eBook (if you haven’t already).

  1. Make a Facebook business page, if you haven’t already.

  3. Use the Facebook RSS applications to feed your blog to Facebook.
  4. Post business updates. What is your business doing today?
  5. Share interesting and helpful information.
  6. Create a Facebook fan box for your page and add it to your website.

How Is Facebook Working For You?

by Admin on October 5, 2009

I was visiting with a friend this past weekend who was telling me about a business that was struggling to keep their store stocked. In the same conversation, they were talking about how they got up in the middle of the night to play Mafia Wars on Facebook and how they keep up with Mafia Wars during the day at their business.

That begs the questions:

If they were spending as much time on their business as they do Mafia Wars, would that be helpful to their business?

If they were spending their Facebook time creating a business page and building a community of fans, would that be helpful for their business?

If they offered helpful information to their Facebook fans, would that be helpful to their business?

Okay, these questions could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that Mafia Wars and Farmville and all these activities may have their place (maybe), but just don’t give up the store to play these games. If you want Facebook to help you with your business, their are lots of ways to make that happen (Or, maybe you could kill off  your competition in Mafia Wars?).

We’ll cover some of the ways to use Facebook for your business in later posts.

Is Your Business on Facebook?

by blogmistress on April 8, 2009

Way back when we did the 5 things concerning social media we discussed Facebook. I encouraged you to check out Facebook, set up a Facebook account and join a few groups. Now it is time to set up a page for your business on Facebook.  Facebook has changed a little since that last article. You can now set up a page by clicking on “applications” at the bottom of the page and then choosing “ads and pages.” Follow the instructions to set up your page.

This is an opportunity for your business to reach even more people. Hopefuly, by now you have been building up your network of friends on Facebook and you can invite all of them the check out your business page and become fans.

Something else you can try is setting up a group. We recently set up a group called “The Beautiful Twin Lakes Area of Arkansas”. People can join this group and promote their events and happenings in the area. I live in a retirement and tourist area so this was a great vehicle to help promote the area (and our businesses) to a larger group.

With the fastest growing demographic on Facebook being people over 30, it is likely that your customers are there. If they are there, you should be too.
